There will be a guided field trip to the Pennsylvania Mine and surrounding sites on Peru Creek on Thursday, August 25, 2016, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jeff Graves of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety and Paul Peronard of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will lead the tour and discuss recent cleanup efforts at the Penn Mine and other nearby locations. This is a great opportunity to visit the site for the first time, or to return to see all of the progress that has been made during recent years.
Field trip participants will meet at 9:00 a.m. at Keystone Policy Center (1628 Sts John Road, Keystone, CO) and then carpool to the Pennsylvania Mine Site. Please bring your own food and water and wear appropriate clothing for the visit. Expect some walking between sites, although sites are accessible by vehicle. All walking will be above ground (we will not be going within the mine workings). Participants may need to use their own vehicles to carpool or may be encouraged to ride with others attending the field trip. High clearance is needed (e.g., no sedans – trucks and SUVs are fine).
Please RSVP to Julie Shapiro (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you plan to attend the field trip. RSVPs are requested for planning purposes but are not required; drop-ins are welcome however please be sure to arrive by 9 a.m. at the Keystone Policy Center parking lot.
